LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings ended the regular season with a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars at the Staples Center on Saturday night.
The game was pretty much over in the 1st Period. Jamie Benn’s natural hat trick in the 1st period helped the Stars take control and never look back. Devin Shore scored the first goal of the game in the opening period followed by Benn’s natural hat trick. It was 4-0 after 20 minutes of play. Alec Martinez scored two goals in the 2nd period to cut the Stars lead in half but that’s as close as they would come since there was no scoring in the 3rd period.
Jonathan Quick made 14 saves on 18 shots while his counterpart Kari Lehtonen made 34 saves out of 36 shots.
Elsewhere, the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 while the Minnesota Wild beat the San Jose Sharks 6-3. This means the Kings’ first-round opponent in the Stanley Cup Playoffs will be the first-year team, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, who have surprised most people this year as the Pacific Division champions.
