Sparks fall to Liberty in penultimate preseason game

UNCASVILLE – The Los Angeles Sparks fell 81-75 to the New York Liberty on Tuesday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.

New York outscored Los Angeles 22-16 in the opening quarter and kept things under control in the final minutes of regulation to get the six-point win.

Cappie Pondexter led the Sparks with 17 points on 46 percent shooting, while Essense Carson chipped in 14 points and two rebounds.

The Liberty had four players in double figures, led by Kia Nurse’s 19 points. Marissa Coleman added 14 points to go along with four rebounds on the afternoon.

The Sparks will return home to close out the preseason on Saturday night at Pasadena City College against the China National Team.
