Riverside, California – Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with a frightening hit-and-run incident that occurred during a protest in Southern California over the weekend.The incident unfolded late Saturday night in Riverside, where demonstrators had gathered as part of a nationwide “No Kings” protest. According to police, an SUV was driven toward the crowd, striking a 21-year-old woman and leaving her seriously injured. She was quickly transported to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.Following a swift investigation and tips from the public, police arrested a 58-year-old Riverside man on Monday. He is accused of driving the vehicle and could face serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injury. Investigators also took a 39-year-old Riverside woman into custody. She is suspected of helping to conceal the SUV in an unincorporated area of the Mojave Desert and attempting to destroy evidence related to the incident. Charges against her may include being an accessory after the fact and destruction of evidence.The “No Kings” protests, which took place in cities across the country, were organized to oppose what activists described as authoritarian actions by former President Donald Trump. While most gatherings remained peaceful, tensions flared in several locations, leading to arrests and confrontations.In a separate incident during a protest in Salt Lake City, Utah, a demonstrator was fatally shot by a security volunteer who was reportedly trying to stop a suspected gunman. Meanwhile, in Arizona, a masked man was arrested after brandishing a handgun during a clash with protesters at the state capitol.Police in Riverside are continuing to investigate the hit-and-run and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
