The new low-profile California Highway Patrol vehicle was in action Monday after spotting two vehicles racing westbound on the 60 Freeway in Chino.

Captured on dash cam video, two vehicles, an Alfa Romeo Giulia and a Chrysler 300, are both spotted speeding past the discreet CHP vehicle.

A 21-year-old from Moreno Valley driving the Chrysler was arrested during the pursuit in Rancho Cucamonga for speeding and reckless driving. His vehicle was towed, and he faces criminal charges. The driver of the Alfa Romeo is subject to arrest at a later time, according to the CHP.

Video displayed the CHP’s latest specially marked Dodge Durangos in its mission to crack down on “video game styled” driving on highways in the state.

In May, the CHP introduced a convoy of 100 new high-performance black and gray colored vehicles with faded markings to help officers blend into traffic, observing the most reckless and dangerous behaviors without immediate detection, according to the CHP.

“The new vehicles give our officers an important advantage,” Sean Duryee, CHP Commissioner, said in a news release. “They will allow us to identify and stop drivers who are putting others at risk, while still showing a professional and visible presence once enforcement action is needed.”

All 100 specially marked patrol vehicles are strategically positioned along the busiest highways, high-risk roadways across the state.

The CHP also said, speed is to blame for 30% of all crashes, including contributing to traffic fatalities and injuries.

More than 390,000 crashes happen annually state wide with nearly 1,000 daily reports of reckless driving.

Last year, patrol officers gave almost 18,000 citations to drivers speeding over 100 mph, according to CHP.
