Six months after the Eaton Fire, about 50 or more dogs who were rescued from the flames are still looking for homes, according to the Pasadena Humane.

During the wildfires in January, Pasadena Humane took in about 1,100 animals, including 567 who were temporarily boarded while their families looked for stable housing.

“Something that we were fortunate enough to do here was to open up and say ‘Bring your animals to us,’” said Kevin McManus, director of public relations and communications.

These dogs are still in need of a home because either the shelters don’t have a place to take them, or their families simply haven’t reached out to the shelter, he said.

Thankfully, many families were able to come and retrieve their pets immediately, he said, but some are still waiting.

“It’s just especially heartbreaking from a community standpoint that so many of our neighbors, our friends still don’t have a place that will allow them to bring their pets,” McManus said.

Although the pets receive love and attention from Pasadena Humane volunteers, he said it’s still not the same as having a home. The organization’s next goal is to help all of its pets find loving owners.

Pasadena Humane, with help from the Pet Care Foundation, has waived adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats from July 9 to July 20.

Meet some of the shelter’s pups at a pop-up adoption event on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shake Shack Pasadena.
