SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) — An alleged assault involving multiple juveniles that was captured on video outside a movie theater has prompted an investigation by the Simi Valley Police Department, the agency said.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. Friday to a report of an assault in a parking lot at 2751 Tapo Canyon Road, according to a news release.
The alleged victim was no longer at the scene when police arrived, authorities said. Less than two hours later, at 12:45 a.m., the Police Department “was called by the victim and his mother regarding the assault. We responded to their residence and a criminal investigation was launched,” the statement said.

Investigators on Saturday were attempting to gather several videos of the incident that were circulating online, police said.
“We are also aware of several racial slurs being used during this incident and that will be investigated as well,” the news release said.
One of the juveniles who was at the scene of the incident is related to a member of Simi Valley Police Department, the agency confirmed.
“That employee was not at the scene nor will he be involved in the investigation,” the department’s statement said. “That relationship has no bearing on this investigation. A thorough an unbiased investigation will be conducted.”
No arrests have been announced.
Police said evidence was still being gathered Saturday and witnesses still needed to be interviewed in the case, adding that more details would be provided when they became available.
