Police are investigating a shooting involving a security guard and a second person Friday in downtown San Diego, a San Diego police officer said.

The shooting was reported shortly before 4:55 p.m. at the Ralphs on G Street and First Avenue, Officer Anthony Carrasco said.

He said the initial investigation indicates that the security guard told a passing driver that he was being shot at, and that he had also opened fire on the gunman. The passerby happened to be a federal agent who saw the commotion, stopped and helped detain the person suspected of shooting at the security guard, Carrasco said.

The suspect was caught on First Avenue, about a block north of the store.

No one was injured by the gunfire.

First Avenue is shut down between Broadway and G Street as police investigate.
