Several rescued beagles are looking for their forever homes this Saturday at an adoption event in Huntington Beach.
Bean’s Beagles, an Orange County-based rescue founded in 2017, is bringing many beagles who have spent months or even years under its care.
“Every single dog at our event this weekend needs a home,” said Dolores Ellis, president of Bean’s Beagles. “Kennel life has been their thing because that’s all we could offer them at this point, but they need a home and they need human interaction.”
Among the beagles available for adoption are Dwayne, a 4-year-old Beagle-bloodhound mix, Mocha, a 2-year-old female, and 7-year-old Sole.
Meet Dwayne
After originally being rescued in San Diego, Dwayne, a volunteer favorite, has spent over a year in the care of Bean’s Beagles. The organization calls him a big sweetheart who loves to go on walks.
Dwayne has struggled with allergies, Ellis said, and she hopes to find him a home with an owner that can properly care for his needs.

Meet Mocha
Mocha is the nonprofit’s longest term resident. She is a sweet and energetic tri-pawd beagle who loves to run around despite being tripawd.
Her front left leg was broken under her original ownership. After it was surgically repaired, she developed an infection and was taken to a shelter where her leg was amputated.

Meet Sole
Sole is Bean’s Beagle’s newest addition. The nonprofit said he is a happy, sweet boy despite some neurological issues.

Meet Nacho
The rescue group will never turn down a furry friend who’s not a beagle. A Chihuahua named Nacho, who’s a “beagle in spirit,” will also be at the adoption event.

Bean’s Beagles will be holding adoption events in Huntington Beach over the next two Saturdays.
- This Saturday, July 12, the group will be at the Pet Supply on Brookhurst Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- On Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will be held at Pet Supplies Plus on Edinger Avenue.
A complete list of the shelter’s rescues who are up for adoption can be found on Bean’s Beagles website.
“Every rescue that we know of is full, and we stretch ourselves as much as we can every time there’s a dog in need,” Ellis said.
The agency typically rescues most of its dogs from shelters, relinquishing owners and calls from community members.
In Orange County, 1,193 dogs were taken into shelters from January to March 2025. Among them, 176 dogs were transferred to other agencies, like Bean’s Beagles.
The animal rescue has experienced very low adoption rates this year with only four finding homes, which Ellis said seems to be a result of economic struggles families are facing.
“It’s a national trending issue. Housing issues, income issues. They’re all tied to that, and dogs come second to a lot of family members and their priorities,” Ellis said.
Bean’s Beagles accepts donations for medical bills as well as gifts noted on its Amazon wishlist. See details here.
