A child riding a stand-up electric scooter died Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle and pinned underneath it in Chula Vista, police said.

The collision happened just before 2:15 p.m. on Tango Road in the city’s Otay Ranch neighborhood, the department said in a press release.

Bystanders used a rolling hydraulic jack to lift up the vehicle and free the boy, police said. He was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

Police said the child was a “young juvenile” but did not release his age, and withheld his name pending family’s notification of his death.

The department said that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.

Police asked that anyone who saw the collision or has information about it contact Chula Vista Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5320.
