In response to the catastrophic flooding that devastated parts of the Texas Hill Country over the 4th of July weekend, one of Los Angeles’ oldest deli’s, Langer’s Deli, is stepping up to the plate.
The home of the “world’s best pastrami”, is hosting a “Help Texas Day” on Saturday, July 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The one-day donation drive will benefit the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a nonprofit providing direct aid to flood survivors.
“As a parent and grandparent, my heart is broken,” said Norm Langer, owner of the historic Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant. “I’ve spoken with staff and customers all week — everyone wants to help but doesn’t know how. This is our chance to come together and make a real difference.”
Over the weekend, extreme flooding swept through Texas, with at least 120 people confirmed dead, over 170 still missing and several families displaced from their homes.
Here are ways you can join in on the “Help Texas Day”:
- Cash donations will be accepted both inside the restaurant and curbside.
- Walk-up or drive-by donors will be able to contribute securely from their phones through Touchless giving via QR codes.
- LAPD Cadets will assist with drive-up collections for those who prefer to stay in their vehicles.
As a gesture of appreciation, every donor — whether they give $1 or $1,000 — will receive a free beverage of their choice, dine-in only, no purchase required.
“Langer’s has always stood for community,” Langer added. “We came together after 9/11, during COVID — and now we’re showing up for Texas.”
The event will take place at Langer’s Deli, located at 704 S. Alvarado St., just steps from MacArthur Park.
