The man charged with murdering and dismembering his wife and in-laws was found dead by suicide in a jail cell, law enforcement sources told NBCLA.

Samuel Haskell, who was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in his murder case this week, was discovered Saturday morning, the source said.

The circumstances of the Tarzana man’s death weren’t immediately available, the sources said, and added that Haskell left a note.

Haskell, 35, was charged in late 2023 with the murders of his wife, Mei Haskell, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang and Gaoshan Li.

Mei Haskell’s partial remains were discovered in a trash bin behind a strip mall in Encino in November, 2023 and were later identified through DNA comparisons.

At last word from authorities the remains of her parents, Wang and Li, have never been recovered.

Samuel Haskell had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was being held with no bail while awaiting trial.
