Three Santa Monica residents were recently celebrated for their life-saving actions after rushing into a burning apartment to rescue an elderly woman trapped inside.
Stephanie Inouye, Jeff Jarow, and Trevor Nichols were honored by the American Red Cross during its 20th Annual Hometown Heroes Awards Luncheon, held aboard the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach. The trio received recognition for their courage and quick thinking during a dramatic rescue that unfolded in their neighborhood.
When flames broke out in the apartment complex, the three sprang into action without hesitation. As smoke filled the hallways and panic spread among residents, they managed to locate the elderly woman and guide her to safety—risking their own lives in the process.
Their selfless act prevented what could have been a tragic outcome and demonstrated the power of community in times of crisis. Fire officials credited their swift response with saving a life that day.
The Hometown Heroes Awards honor ordinary individuals who show extraordinary courage, compassion, and leadership during emergencies. This year’s ceremony highlighted not only the bravery of Inouye, Jarow, and Nichols, but also the vital role neighbors can play in protecting each other when disaster strikes.
