“Superman” is officially now in theaters, and its preview numbers are already breaking records.
The 2025 James Gunn-directed film has made more than $22.5 million in previews, setting a record for the year so far, reports Variety.
That number flies over hits like 2023’s “Barbie” and the live-action version of Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” according to Deadline.
The numbers are even record-breaking for Gunn himself. The outlet reports it beats his “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which racked up $17.5 million in 2023.
Actor David Corenswet sports the S on his chest in the film.
“Superman” is the first major project coming after a major shakeup at DC Studios, which made Gunn and Peter Safran co-CEOs in 2022. From there, they overhauled the DC Universe for Warner Bros.
Experts project “Superman” will make between $120 million and $130 million in its opening weekend.
Fans getting an early start to see the movie flocked to the TCL Theatre in Hollywood for a special screening. Some of them donned their best merchandise, honoring the Man of Steel. The concession stand featured festive cups and popcorn buckets.
Internationally, the movie is set to make at least $100 million but could likely stretch to $200 million.
“Superman” has so far received an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
