A fire that started on Camp Pendleton on Thursday had grown to about 500 acres but was in a “controlled status” Friday morning, a Marine Corps official said.

The fire started about 1:45 p.m. in the Bravo 1 and 2 areas, 2nd Lt. Anna Hornick said. The sites are on the north end of the sprawling military installation.

Containment lines have been drawn around 30% of the fire footprint, Hornick said. There was no threat to structures, she said, and as of Friday morning, there were no road closures associated with the fire.

Crews are walking the perimeter to ensure there is no spread and the correct areas are targeted, she said.
