Shohei Ohtani’s beloved pup, Decoy, is the star of a new children’s book, the MVP player announced Thursday on Instagram.
The MLB star’s dog will debut in the novel titled “Decoy Saves Opening Day,” which is loosely based on real-life events, centering around Decoy’s opening pitch of the 2025-2026 season.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to support animal rescue nonprofits, according to the Dodgers’ star, who is a sponsor of animal rescue organizations.

The book co-written with author Michael Blank will feature stadium hot dogs, the biggest backyard and thousands of Decoy’s human friends.
It’s expected to hit bookshelves in February 2026, and those interested can pre-order the book from select retailers.
This isn’t the first time Decoy stepped up to the plate; during Ohtani’s debut season for the Dodgers, his famous dog threw out the ceremonial first pitch against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 28, 2024.
