A Los Angeles man Thursday was charged with murder and burglary after he was linked to the fatal shootings of a long-time “American Idol” executive and her husband inside an Encino home this week.
Raymond Boodarian, 22, made a court appearance Thursday after he was arrested in connection with the shootings. Details about what led to the arrest were not immediately available.
Hilary Williams, a prosecutor from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, said Boodarian is facing two charges of murder and one charge of first-degree burglary.
Williams said, if convicted on all charges, Boodarian could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
Boodarian is scheduled to arraigned on Aug. 20.
Robin Kaye, who has worked on the show since 2009, and Thomas Deluca were found dead Monday afternoon in separate rooms in the San Fernando Valley residence.
Kaye was a veteran in the Hollywood industry who also worked in the music departments of several other productions, including “The Singing Bee,” “Hollywood Game Night,” “Lip Sync Battle,” and several Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.
Law enforcement sources said they believe the shooting happened last Thursday during a possible burglary at the house. The shooter entered the residence through an unlocked door and, during a confrontation with the couple when they arrived home, shots were fired, the sources said.
It was not immediately clear why the bodies were not found until Monday.
Just weeks ago, Kaye contacted private security company The Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills, expressing concerns over her safety, owner Kris Herzog said.
“She felt threatened by somebody because of somebody around their home or around their neighborhood who felt suspicious,” Herzog said.
Police are looking into what led up to the shooting and what happened in the days that followed. A neighbor said a person was seen Thursday hopping a fence onto the property.
“We didn’t hear anything,” neighbor Amee Faggen said. “My renter saw somebody hopping the fence, but that was back on Thursday. She called 911, but we didn’t hear anything since then, so we have no idea if it’s even related or not.”
Dispatch records show LAPD officers were sent to the home Thursday afternoon on a report of a prowler. Officers arrived at about 5 p.m., but did not find evidence of a burglary or prowler and left the scene.
Court records also showed Boodarian was jailed last year on suspicion of threat, weapons, and battery charges.
In December, a judge dismissed the cases against Boodarian after a mental health evaluation was completed, and the court records indicated he was placed in a conservatorship, which puts another adult in charge of major decisions in a person’s life if they’ve been diagnosed with a severe mental disorder.
