A former LAPD officer and reserve officer was arrested this week while he was out on bail and awaiting trial on an insurance fraud case.
Eric Halem, who joined the department in the 1990s and left full-time employment in 2022, was being held with no bail, according to jail records.
The LAPD declined Friday to explain his detention.
“The Los Angeles Police Department can confirm that the recent arrest of former LAPD reserve officer Eric Halem is not related to the Department’s investigation into residential burglaries in the West Valley,” the statement said referring to another news report.
“This matter remains under investigation, and we will not be providing further details at this time,” the LAPD statement said.
Halem, 37, and his younger brother were charged with felony insurance fraud earlier this year after the California Department of Insurance accused the pair of filing fraudulent claims, allegedly tied to Halem’s business of renting out luxury and exotic cars.
Halem and his brother pleaded not guilty in May and were due in court this week for a hearing.
Jail records show Halem was arrested at 3pm Thursday by members of the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division.
