Southern California’s spell of unseasonably low temperatures will soon make way for summer-like conditions as the week progresses.
Temperatures in the Southland will steadily climb and reach triple digits in some communities as we return to average conditions for this time of the year. The past two weeks were marked by comfortable – though unseasonably low – temps across the region but that’ll change by the end of the week.
“Next week, part of the late portion to the week, Thursday and Friday, things are really going to start to warm up,” NBC4 Meteorologist Shanna Mendiola said. “Those triple-digit numbers are coming back to the forecast because we’re finally going to see a change in the weather pattern.”
According to Mendiola, Wednesday will be the “transitional day” when temperatures will begin to turn around. The incoming warmth is all thanks to high pressure that will soon rest over SoCal.
“Get ready for the heat as we watch that ridge of high pressure right off to the east pretty much intensify and bring that warmth our way,” Mendiola said. “It’s been right over Texas and the middle portion of our country for the past couple of weeks, but finally, we get a little dose of summer, ourselves.”
As with any hot day, the public is advised to practice heat safety. Strenuous outdoor activity should be limited and those who work outside should regularly stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Vehicles can reach dangerously high temperatures in the sun, climbing about 20 degrees inside compared to outside conditions. Never leave children or pets in hot vehicles.
