A man attacked a group of people outside Carlsbad’s Georgina Cole Library early Saturday, killing one before getting arrested by police a few hours later.

Homero Duran, 52, of Carlsbad, allegedly began “physically attacking others” near the library just after 2 a.m., prompting a 911 call, said Denise Ramirez, a spokesperson for Carlsbad police.

When police arrived, they found an unconscious adult man with injuries, Ramirez said. The man died at the scene.

Authorities searched the area and later arrested Duran near Tyler Street and Walnut Avenue around 4:45 a.m.

Duran was taken to the Vista jail on tentative murder charges, Ramirez said.

Further details about the man who died have not been released. Carlsbad police did not immediately return a request for comment.
