The driver of a Nissan Frontier pickup was arrested after crashing into the side of a bagel shop in Van Nuys early Thursday and nearly striking two Los Angeles Police Department officers.

The truck crashed through a wall of Western Bagel on the 7800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. A tow truck driver following the pickup tried to flag down after noticing the reckless driver, police said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, two police officers happened to be in the area getting a cup of coffee when the crash happened. The officers were just getting out of their patrol car when the truck narrowly missed them.

Video showed one officer diving to the ground just before the truck passed. One officer was struck by debris, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The pickup ended up halfway inside the building.

In the car were three juveniles and an adult driver. The three juveniles were cited for curfew violation and released to their parents, LAPD said. The driver was booked for assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.

None of the occupants of the car or people in the bagel shop suffered any injuries, LAPD said.

A water main and gas line were damaged in the crash.
