President Trump is planning to sign an executive order Tuesday that will create a White House Olympics task force charged with handling security and other matters for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman was expected to join President Trump at the White House Tuesday afternoon for the signing.
Wasserman thanked President Trump in a statement Monday and called the task force an “important step” in preparing Los Angeles for its third Olympics.
President Donald Trump announced his intention to create a task force for the 2028 LA Olympics. Tracey Leong reports for the NBC4 News at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025.
“On behalf of LA28, I want to express our deep appreciation to President Trump and his Administration for their leadership and unwavering support as we prepare to deliver the largest and most ambitious Olympic and Paralympic Games ever hosted in the United States,” Wasserman said. “Since we secured this historic opportunity in 2017, President Trump has consistently recognized the magnitude of our responsibility in welcoming the world to Los Angeles.
“The creation of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.”
Citing an administration official, Reuters reported that the task force will include members from the President’s cabinet and government agencies. They will also coordinate federal, state and local government work on transportation, Reuters reported.
The task force will “streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” according to the report, shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
In a statement of her own, Leavitt added:
“During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The President considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term. Sports is one of President Trump’s greatest passions, and his athletic expertise, combined with his unmatched hospitality experience, will make these Olympic events the most exciting and memorable in history.”
In March, the President signed an executive order establishing a similar White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. The group, chaired by President Trump, coordinates with federal agencies in preparation for the international soccer event, which includes games in Los Angeles.
The LA 2028 Olympics Opening Ceremony is July 14, 2028 with competition through July 30, 2028. The LA28 Paralympic Games will kick off Aug. 15, 2028 and close Aug. 27, 2028.
Last month, LA28 released its first look at the Olympic competition schedule. LA hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984.
