Tesla’s first diner and Supercharging station, featuring 50s-style design and serving classic American food, opened Monday in Hollywood.
Tesla Diner, Elon Musk’s latest project with the EV maker, is open 24/7 and serves traditional American diner food. Video shared by Elon Musk on X showed the location features two large movie screens. Other video clips shared on social media appear to show a humanoid robot serving popcorn.
The Hollywood location on 7001 Santa Monica Blvd. is open to anyone, but some features require a Tesla vehicle.
Musk said he plans to open more locations if the initial diner proves successful.
“If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long distance routes,” Musk posted on X,. “An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging!”
Musk also said that he is already planning to open another location at SpaceX Starbase in Texas.
Tesla owners can park in the lot and order anything on the vehicle’s interface. The Tesla vehicles will also sync with the audio playing on the movie screens into the vehicle speakers.
According to the Tesla website, the diner offers 80 V4 charging stalls, and customers can wait for their vehicle to be fully charged while they wait for their food.
Tracey Kuss, who owns a Tesla and excited about the finished project, was in line since 6 a.m. Monday, to get into the diner after the opening was announced to the public.
“I’ve watched it from 2018 or so when he’s talked about it, totally wanting to build it, from nothing to coming up and it’s really exciting for me to be here to see it all built completely,” Kuss said.
Musk announced plans in 2018 to build a Tesla Supercharger Diner and in 2022, filed plans with the city of Los Angeles to move forward with the first-of-its-kind, 24-hour diner with EV charging stations and a drive-in movie theater after Shakey’s closed on the Hollywood property.
