A woman was in custody Tuesday after an infant died with significant injuries at a Santa Monica apartment, police said.

A woman was in custody Tuesday after an infant died with significant injuries at a Santa Monica apartment, police said.

Santa Monica police were notified by UCLA Police at approximately 11:54 a.m. that an adult woman had been detained on the UCLA campus after making statements indicating she had harmed her child and left the child inside an apartment in the 2000 block of Broadway, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Officers responded to the residence and found an infant with significant injuries. Santa Monica Fire Department personnel transported the child to a local hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.

The woman was taken into custody in connection with the incident and transported to Santa Monica Jail. Police did not release the identities of those involved.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the case. Based on preliminary information, the incident appears to be isolated with no ongoing threat to the community, police said.
