National City police chased and arrested a 30-year-old man after he ran from a home where a woman was found stabbed to death Wednesday, officials said.

Police were called about 2:10 p.m. to investigate a suspected assault at a home on East Division Street near D Avenue, Detective Sgt. Mark Segal said in a news release Thursday.

The caller said he found blood in the home and gave police the description of a man found inside the home, Segal said.

Officers arrived and found a man matching the description fleeing the scene. Segal said officers chased the man through several backyards, and when they caught up and confronted him, he tried to run again. Officers deployed a police dog and less-lethal tools to bring him into custody.

A woman was found dead in the home. Her name was not immediately released.

The man who fled, identified by police as Noel Trevino, was booked into jail on one count of murder. Online jail records indicate he is being held without bail and could be arraigned Friday in Chula Vista Superior Court.
